Need some adrenaline this winter? Head upstate to Hunter Mountain to fly down the mountain on ziplines then hit the slopes on your boards and skis. New York Zipline Adventure Tours, the largest zipline course in the northeast and 2nd largest in the world, really should have a different name for ziplining. When I think of a zipline course, I think of small lines strung together that glide you from platform to platform. New York Zipline Adventure Tours newest tour, the “Skyrider”, is more like a zipline on steroids. You don’t glide down the mountain. You fly down, sometimes at speeds of 40mph.
Led by 4 professional guides, you will be hanging at up to 600 feet above the ground (that’s 60 stories up) ziplining mountain to mountain. As you make your way down the mountain the lines get less high but faster. If heights aren’t your thing, feel free to try their other tours such as the Mid Mountain tour and the Adventure tower.
I am excited to go back and give it a try in the summer but winter was really an experience. As long as you dress warm, the snow and cold air don’t really bother you because you will be more focused on holding on and flying through the mountains. Seriously, this was a lot of fun and I highly suggest it for anyone looking to escape to a mountain to ski or board. Hunter Mountain is a short ride from New York City and the mountain is pretty legit. The town has a few bars and restaurants also. Great alternative to Vermont.

This had to be my most challenging assignment, but the experience & photos were well worth it. My job was to capture the excitement of the experience (at 600 ft) in the air zipping through the mountains in arctic conditions. Holding up the camera to my face while I was on the zipline was honestly not an option. I strapped the camera across my body, hold on to the zipline with one hand (not recommended), and snap shots with my other hand. The last two photos are HDR taken from a platforms. All the pictures show a different line from the Skyrider tour.

While I’m not a “heights” person, this looks so cool! Quite an adventure to get these shots! You really captured the adrenaline factor!
Whoa that looks fun! Love all the shots. The second one really shows how long the line is. Might have to convince my girlfriend to do this with me. How did you get the last two shots in HDR?
That looks like soooo much fun! Love the second shot…that shock of red against the bleak background is amazing.
These photos are amazing!! That backdrop is awesome. I can’t believe you ziplined with a camera.
I think the only thing I could do is maybe walk across that bridge in the last photo
Freddy I was standing on a platform in the last two shots. The platforms are what you run off and land on at each stop. kind of like a landing strip. HDR was not option when I was moving or when others were moving in shot. Too Fast! Thanks for the comments so far.
That looks so cool! I want to try it!
Wow Tim awesome job hanging on and grabbing these shots. You certainly captured the atmosphere of this.
These are some breathtaking shots Tim!! I love the last shot here…the woods look so pretty. I’m with Laura, I think the only thing I could do is walk across that bridge!
Wow dude! These are incredible! Looks like a blast. We should definitely give it a try in the summer.
Love all the shots, but #3 is amazing with the line disappearing in the distance. #2 is sick too…like how the red suits really sticks out.
I agree with Bri, I love the 2nd picture because of the red suit. That person looks like their wearing one of those suits for an everest expedition!
I definitely want to go to Hunter in the summer…but maybe for the Mid Mountain tour? lol
Thanks. Happy the way they turned out based on the challenge. Would love to do it again sometime or try there location in Jamaica because this cold weather is getting old!
